Customized employment typically involves a formal Customized Employment format. This format was originally created by Marc Gold in the 1980’s as a way to assist those with disabilities to find and/or create employment customized to their needs, skills, strengths, and abilities.
Some of the examples of customized employment on this page will include examples of all of the other forms of employment—but the employment originally stemmed from a formal customized process. Other examples will display those with intellectual disabilities who may not have been through a formal customized process, but whose current employment is very customized for that individual–meaning that their employment choices are very customized for their own needs, strengths, skills, and abilities.
