Parent Partnership

Parent Partnership employment can be a great employment opportunity for many youth and adults with intellectual disabilities. Parent Partnership businesses can consist of many different types of employment. For some, parent partnership means owning a small business or microenterprise with a parent. In some states, the business is owned by just the parent, both partners, or the person with a disability–just depending upon tax and small business laws. Sometimes these businesses can expand to employ others inclusively (both with and without disabilities), some just employ the parent and person with a disability. Further, some partnership situations include parents who already own their own business, or are able to work out a partnership situation with their own employer also can be considered parent partnerships! If you have your own example you would like reviewed, please send it to employabilityusa@gmail.edu

**Please note: The focus of this webpage is to emphasize integrated competitive employment. There have been attempts with parent partnerships and other small businesses to only employ those with disabilities–rather than emphasize inclusive and integrated employment. Those businesses will not be displayed via this website as they do not embrace inclusive, integrated, competitive employment.
