Many youth and adults with disabilities have found success in employment through different forms of self-employment. These forms can include the person owning their own small business, owning and running their own microenterprise (and even smaller form of a small business). Some have found enough success to employ other people with and without disabilities!
On this page, webpages are shared to exemplify successful forms of self-employment of those with intellectual disabilities! We focus especially on those who have created businesses on their own, or with some support. If they employ others, we try to focus primarily on those who employ inclusively, meaning both those with and without disabilities. If you have a webpage you would like shared, please email it to employabilityusa@gmail.com for us to review.
**Please note: The focus of this webpage is to emphasize integrated competitive employment. There have been attempts with parent partnerships and other small businesses to only employ those with disabilities–rather than emphasize inclusive and integrated employment. Those businesses will not be displayed via this website as they do not embrace inclusive, integrated, competitive employment.
